A New Discovery

So, I haven't written in a while, and Thanksgiving break has passed in that time. Thanksgiving break is one of my favorite times of the year, because all my family does is play games and eat food. It is really great. Well, this Thanksgiving break I brought home two friends, Ryne and Giselle. It was really fun to share my traditions with my friends. One new game that I discovered was Spot It. This game is incredibly genius. The game consists of circular cards that have only one exact match. The math behind the game blows my mind. The best part about this game is that there are six different games that can be played with it and it can be played with a wide variety of people. Below is a picture of the game:
It is such a great game and I really recommend it as a new family favorite.I would recommend that everyone try it out. :) Enjoy!

Something To Look Forward To

I can't even begin to express my excitement for the movie Hunger Games. I loved the books, and read the first one before anyone ever knew about them. These are going to be incredible movies. I hope you enjoy the trailer as much as I did. Enjoy!

Unexpected surprise

So, I was exploring Youtube videos last night and found one that made me laugh so hard. I watch and rewatch it constantly and laugh just as hard each time. I hope you enjoy my moment of happiness as much as I did.

Offered Only At BYU

As I have come to find out, BYU offers quite different experiences. You really have some good opportunities both academically and spiritually. Classes at BYU really challenge me to think and not only learn facts, but apply the facts. My American Heritage class does this the most, which is what makes it such a hard class. It really takes a lot to learn how to apply knowledge learned.
Not only do I have a lot of wonderful experiences in my academics, I also have a lot of great spiritual opportunities. First of, I find that I learn a lot from a young single adult ward. It is really great to go to church with people who are all in the same place in life as me. I really learn a lot because they have all experienced the same stuff as me. I love sacrament meeting because it is super quiet and it is really great! I love families, but I really like quietness, where I can feel the spirit more. I love being able to fill the Holy Ghost as I listen to the talks and take the sacrament.
Another great opportunity I get is to listen to general authorities. I have gotten to listen to five up to this point. I have listened to Elder Oaks, Elder Andersen, Elder Ballard, President Packer, and President Monson. So, I have also been in the room with Elder Perry, Elder Cook, and Elder Nelson. It really is incredible to be in the same room with such amazing roll models who have such an incredible spirit.I have learned a ton of just simple concepts by listening to them. They really talk about the basics of prayer, love, and scripture reading a lot. They talk about a lot of topics, but they always talk about the basic topics as they talk about this and tie it all together. So, overall I am loving  life at BYU and love the experiences I am having.

My New Blog

So, recently I started a new blog. It all started with a family history class that I am in. For this class we have to do a six hour project on anything that has to do with family history. I was kind of stuck on what to do, and was commiserating to my roommates when my roommate Brittany suggested I do a family history blog. I really love blogging and I love family history so it turned out to be a great mix. So, for those who are interested, my new blog is http://familyhistoryconnections.blogspot.com/. I'm going to probably be spending most of my time on this blog getting it started and going. I hope you check it out and if you have any suggestions of things to add to my blog, shoot me an email. :) Thanks!

Changing Seasons

Well, fall came quick, and is leaving just as quickly. I wish I could say that I'm disappointed in the coming of winter, but I have always loved the changing of seasons. Whenever I'm asked what my favorite season is, it changes every time. I really love them all, and I especially love watching them change. So, if anyone would ask me right now what my favorite season is, right now it would be fall, but soon it will be winter. I am just really loving all of this. I love the crisp air, the changing colors, and the snow on the mountains. I'm looking forward to the holidays, and I'm definitely excited to be with my family again for both Thanksgiving and Christmas break. I am definitely hoping that this winter is a calm one though, because the last thing I need is inclement weather to keep me from seeing my family. Overall, I'm loving life and I love the Earth that God has created for us.

So, my roommates and I are hooked on the show the sing-off. To be honest though, I probably won't watch it past this season. Why? Because I am only watching it for BYU's group Vocal Point. They are by far the best group on the show. They are really representing BYU and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints very well. Every week so far they have gotten only positive from the judge, and two of the judges give them a standing ovations (every week!). They are the only group to have either of these things happen! That is incredible! I really think that this group will be able to go far, and that is amazing to me. So, every Monday night (if it doesn't conflict with Home Evening) I am watching the sing-off as Vocal Point's #1 fan! To share in my joy, I have shared a link for their most recent performance on the sing-off. (and by the way, if you can't watch it on TV, the show is online every week at nbc.com) Enjoy!

Football

Most people enjoy football because they love the team, they love the game, they love the food, they love getting together, and the list goes on and on. Well, as some of you may or may not know, I am working as an usher at all home BYU football games, and my favorite part about the games is the atmosphere. Last night definitely felt like a football game more than any of the other games. It was a crisp, clear fall night. The smell of hot dogs, and nacho cheese filled the air. The crowd was really easy to handle, and we won the game! Altogether it was incredible! My favorite part was the specialness of homecoming game. At the beginning they send off a bunch of balloons and really get the crowd riled up. But even that wasn't my favorite part. I love looking up at any point in the game and seeing the Y on the mountain all lit up. I think that is the greatest! To share in my joy, I will post a picture below! Enjoy!

Eternity

I really love fast and testimony meeting in a singles ward. I love the insights that one can find from the people their own age. I felt the spirit more strongly today than I think I have ever felt in one room. I was especially touched with what one young man said. He talked about how he was feeling really homesick (like most college students) and one day he was having an especially rough patch. One of his friends (to help him feel better) said this, "what is one day in the glimpse of eternity." I really liked this, but he took it in the sense that this one bad day will not mean a lot in eternity. While I like this, I thought of it a different way. As I have felt throughout the week, being away from my family really stinks, and when I thought about it I thought how horrible it would be to be without my family for eternity. I mean think about it. If it is this bad now, how bad would it be to live in a different place for forever! It makes me never want to do anything bad to keep me from the celestial kingdom and away from them. I think about the fact that if they were in the celestial kingdom and I wasn't I couldn't pick when I do or don't get to see them. Like now when I'm at college and I get lonely I can call them whenever I want. I have family just a short drive away. If I were in the terrestrial kingdom while they were in the celestial I wouldn't be able to do that. That saddens me greatly, but at they same time gives me some motivation to do my best in this life so I will be with them forever. I love my family and to be with them forever is all that I could ask for.

Feeling like a little homemaker

Definitely the biggest adjustment with going to college was having my own place and having to take care of it and myself. I have really like it though. I love being able to go to bed when I want, get up when I want. Everything is just great! So, anyway, yesterday I got time to enjoy being a homemaker again. I put on an apron and cooked hamburger. I'm building my own food storage up a little yesterday. I cooked some hamburger I had, froze it and I'm storing it up for later. I also took some zucchini and shredded and it and froze it for later use. All in all, I felt very accomplished yesterday when I got it all done. I really enjoyed being able to feel like I could provide for myself and it was wonderful. I can't wait to completely run my own home. Here are some pictures of my accomplishment:

College life

I really am enjoying college. I really enjoy class sizes, and I'm fitting in really easily here. BYU is definitely the best school ever! I'm excited for the football game tonight, except that I have to work for it. I can't sit back and watch it like most people would do. I really hope the fans aren't too crazy, because I really don't want any big problems tonight. I also really hope that BYU wins! I think that BYU can totally trash Utah, but let's hope I'm right. :)
Anyways, back to college. I've recently changed my major. I am no longer a Business major. I am now a Family History and Genealogy major. I changed because I'm taking a basic family history class and I am absolutely love it! I know that family history is going to be something I can do as a job, and for fun. I know that as I do family history I'm going to become closer to my eternal family, and my family here on Earth. I hope to be able to teach my family all I learn, and if there is anyone else who wants to learn as I get farther along, give me a call and I will totally help.
Another class that I am taking is American Heritage. It is one of the required General Education classes, but so far I am really enjoying it. The teachers for all of these classes do a really good job. They are really smart, and have some really good teaching methods. I think I'm going to learn a lot about where the values in America came from, and how this amazing country got started! I also like how we aren't only thinking about all of this logically, but we talk about all of it in terms of the gospel. That is one thing that I really like about this school. I like that we can combine secular knowledge with spiritual knowledge. It makes learning a lot easier.
I'm also taking some of the business classes right now. I'm probably going to minor in business so that is why I am still taking the business classes even though I am no longer a business major. One of my business classes is accounting. I kind of like accounting. The only problem with it is that I really have to change my way of thinking as I think about how business calculate their money. They really account for things differently that I thought they would. Another business class I am in taking is a finite mathematics class. I like the class. I've always been good at math so I love the challenge that this new type of math gives me. A lot of people say that finite mathematics is similar to statistics which I have never taken before. I like learning all this new stuff though. Another business class I am taking is a excel spreadsheet class. I like learning with computers and I really like the setup of the class. It is a pass/fail class so as long as you do the homework and attend class you should pass. I like that this is the case.
Well, now that you've read all about my classes, I'll tell you a little bit about my roommates. My roommates name's are Brittany, Kristiana, and Ayne (pronounced Ina). They are all really great and I'm getting along with all of them. I'm so glad that we are getting along. If we weren't it would make this semester a lot harder. Brittany is the RA (residential assistant) for the building. She is really easy going, and really responsible. I really am glad that she is my roommate. She has great advice. Kristiana is really nice, and funny. She has a great personality. She is always cracking funny jokes, and I love it! Ayne is the roommate that I share a room with. She is the best roommate I could ever ask for! She is really nice, and easy to get along with. I like talking with her about school, and my social life. She listens really well and always gives great feedback.
So, that is pretty much all of it. This was much longer than I thought it was going to be. Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. I'm going to try harder to post more regularly. So, there you have it! My thoughts about life as a college students. :)

COLLEGE!

So, I already know that I have not been keeping up with my blog posting, but don't worry. I'm working on it! Anyways, life is treating me good right now, as it always has. I'm excited to head to BYU in 2 weeks! It is so close! I'll be staying in Wyvieww apartments in the Provo 129th YSA ward. I've already gotten an email from my bishop. I think that just shows how soon this is all really happening! I'm so excited for it! I will be studying business most likely, which I'm excited for. I will probably focus more on marketing. I also want to take some graphic design classes, and eventually become an advertising consultant. I'm grateful to all who have helped me get to this point as it will be an important step in my life. Yay, college!
